(18). Asimismo, y también en adolescentes, se ha demostrado que la

actividad física por encima del umbral recomendado se asocia con

un sueño más favorable (19) mientras que otros avalan que una in-

tervención de corta duración, como puede ser correr 30 minutos por

las mañanas durante tres semanas mejora el sueño, proponiendo la

promoción del ejercicio físico moderado pero regular, como remedio

y prevención de los problemas relacionados con el sueño y el funcio-

namiento psicológico (20).

CONCLUSIÓN

Uno de cada cinco universitarios padece insomnio. Sus que-

jas de insomnio se encuentran relacionadas fundamentalmente

con la cantidad, y no tanto con la calidad del sueño Esto se tradu-

ce en un alto porcentaje de universitarios que padecen somno-

lencia diurna, la cual podría repercutir sobre las actividades de

la vida diaria.

Aunque no podemos establecer relaciones de causalidad,

encontramos una asociación inversa entre el nivel de actividad

física y el insomnio, por lo que podría constituir un recurso te-

rapéutico en aquellos sujetos con alteraciones del sueño, y una

importante estrategia preventiva en sujetos sanos.

Por tanto, es importante alentar a los universitarios a seguir

una adecuada higiene del sueño y a practicar actividad física con

regularidad, en primer lugar porque se trata de una etapa en la

cual se consolidan los estilos de vida que condicionarán la salud

en el futuro, y en segundo lugar, porque la actividad física es uno

de los determinantes más importantes de salud.
